Driver Walk-around Check App - Distinctive Systems
The Distinctive Systems Driver Walk-around Check App makes it easier to ensure drivers are complying with their statutory duty to carry out a daily walk-around check and report any defects found. The app guides the driver through the complete process of performing their check allowing them to record any defects found using pre-defined lists of descriptions, free type text and pictures taken on the phone. The results the driver submits immediately notify the workshop department of any impending maintenance problems in Distinctive Systems' Vehicle Maintenance System, whilst the operations team are warned of any issues that could affect future vehicle allocations in the company's Coach Manager software.
The judges noted that this app offers many advantages over a paper system and improves the operator's ability to maintain safety standards.
Winner, Silver Award
DriveCam - National Express
Lytx DriveCam is a video system which records the road and the driver's actions. If anything out of the ordinary happens - from harsh breaking to a collision - it automatically sends a 12 second video clip, which includes a few seconds leading up to the incident, to the experts at Lytx for review and is posted to a secure website for the relevant Depot teams to view. This allows National Express to give extra training to drivers who need it and embed a safety culture. Being able to view the short clip of footage leading up to an event means drivers can also be praised on their evasive action to avoid a collision. It also identifies geographical trouble spots where recurring issues can be seen allowing the provision of route-specific training to drivers, and also give highways authorities evidence to encourage them to improve the road if needed. The driveCam system is now fitted as standard alongside Traffilog and Alcolock systems on all National Express coaches, underlining the company's commitment to safety.
The judges were pleased to see National Express leading the way for the industry with a measure that not only improves road safety, but alos the comfort of passengers through the avoidance of harsh driving.
Winner, Bronze Award
